  • March 10, 2010: This week I read Cetiya, a cyperpunk manga-style webcomic. It's a very unusual and original take on the sci-fi genre: magic and technology are synonomous in this world, and there is a lot at stake. I really like the way that the story unfolds, giving you information slowly over time. I wondered about the histories of the characters as I was reading, since many of them seem to have some interesting powers or perceptions of the world. Cetiya also has a very mysterious atmosphere, which is developed through the creative use of page layout, contrasts between black and white in the artwork, and the absorbing dialogue. The writing, especially, is quite good and often humorous. Another good cyberpunk comic at Spiderforest.

  • March 6, 2010: Mathilde is probably my favorite character to draw. Mostly because she's so physical compared to the other characters, as you can see on the latest page.

  • March 3, 2010: For this week I read the comic Sunset Grill. I haven't had much experience reading 3D comics, but I generally like them becomes its something you don't always see. This comic seems very unique from what I've read: an intergalactic Diner sort of setting, with aliens and human characters side by side. There are a lot of unique touches to the world that's been created here: the fact that some of the characters use French phrases is a neat little detail. I really like the models of the characters: they're diverse and expressive, and oftentimes with 3D comics it can be a problem when they all look alike. I probably like the dialogue the most: its pretty dry humor, and works very well with the really weird characters and setting. A very unique take on the 3D comic genre.
